There are different types of Fairy Door here at the Fairy Workshop.
We have special Rainbow Bridge doors which are especially for those spirits that now reside at Rainbow Bridge, our doors are a magical link from the earthly world to the spirit world, and as you know, us fairies are spiritual creatures!
Then we have Basic Fairy Doors, this isn't really a very good name for them, as they have as much love and care and magic in them as any of the others, the name just means they are used for any passing fairy to make their home behind. They come in all sorts of different colours and designs, so there should be something for everyone.
We also make Custom Fairy Doors, where you can tell us what name you'd like on your fairy door. We're not very good at writing big letters like you humans so our writing is a little bit scratchy, but it's big enough for us fairies to read.
And lastly, there's the V.I.P Doors. They're obviously for those big wig fairies that love to socialise and hold parties, they are a bit bigger than the normal fairy doors, thats because when we know there's a party we get so excited we can't pass through a door in single file, we just jostly and bustle each other and go through in groups! So these doors have to be wide enough to cope with that, and some of us always forget to fold our wings so if the doors were too narrow we'd damage them and couldnt fly for a while until they regrown.
So what are the doors made of?
Our fairy doors come in two types of material, one is real wood, Birch infact. And its from a secret magical woodland where the trees grow really quickly. These doors are ideal for putting outside your home. But before you do, they will need a good licking of Yacht varnish. We do coat them with artist's varnish, but this doesnt protect them for very long from the harsh weather. So if you can treat them with Yacht varnish they will last for years and years.
The second material some of our doors are made from is MDF. No that doesn't stand for My Door Fairy hahahaha.... we don't know what it stands for, but what it is is manufactured from wood that's bonded together, a bit like plywood but smaller pieces. Doors made from this material are ideal for inside your home (or outside in a sheltered position with some external varnish on them).
So now you know all about what the doors are made of.
Where do you place them and how do you fix them?
Well that's easy, all our doors can be put anywhere in your home, from just above or on the skirting boards, next to a door, on a bookshelf, headboard, over a light switch, anywhere you can think of where you think a fairy might see them. On the back of each door is an adhesive strip, just pull the white paper off the back carefully, and make sure where you are going to put it is clean and dry. Press firmly and its done! Little fingers won't be able to pull the door off very easily, but you'll have to explain that us fairies are very private and only come out after dark. During the day the doors are locked with a special fairy key, and if the door is pulled away from the wherever it is fixed, then we won't be able to unlock it and go in and out anymore. So best little fingers leave well alone! If you want to put them outdoors, and you've treated them with Yacht varnish to protect them, you can put them on a shed, porch, tree, fence, gate, anywhere! You'll probably need to fix them with a nail or screw or wedge them into a tree trunk to secure them, because otherwise they will blow away in the winter winds and end up back here for us to repair or use as firewood to keep us warm.
